It's very easy to back up the savegame files for Plant Tycoon, or even to copy or move them to a different computer. NOTE: This procedure assumes that you are familiar with creating folders and copying files on your computer. If you are uncomfortable with such tasks, you should seek assistance from an experienced person in order to avoid the possibility of irreparable damage. To back up your games, follow these steps:

  • Pause the game in each player slot that you are using
  • Quit the game
  • For Windows, open My Documents, then open the folder named LDW.
    For Mac, navigate to User/Library/Preferences/LDW.
  • Look for and open the Plant Tycoon folder (the actual name may vary, depending upon where you purchased the game). Do not attempt to open the actual savegame files to prevent the possibility of corrupting them.
  • The savegame files are named Plant Tycoon1.ldw through Plant Tycoon5.ldw, and correspond to each of the savegame slots (1 at the top and 5 at the bottom). There is also a backup of each savegame file named Plant Tycoon21.ldw through Plant Tycoon25.ldw. See the note at the end of these instructions to see how to use those files.
Select all of the files in that folder and copy them to another folder of your choosing, which could also be a CD or flash drive to make it easy to copy the files to another computer. You can even make a sub-folder in the Plant Tycoon folder, call it "Backup" and copy the files into it
  • Verify that the files are in the Plant Tycoon folder and the location that you copied them to
  • You're done, and you have a safe backup of your games.
If you ever need to restore one or more of the games, just choose the appropriate savegame file(s) from your backup folder and copy them back into the Plant Tycoon folder (in My Documents\LDW).

NOTE: Corrupted savegame files will often prevent Plant Tycoon from successfully loading. If you have not previously made a backup of your game(s) and your primary savegame file becomes corrupted (due to such things as a program crash or power failure), you can attempt to recover your game-in-progress using the backup file(s). Once you have safely backed up all of your savegame files using the procedure above, delete them from the Plant Tycoon folder. You can then try copying the savegame files back into the Plant Tycoon folder one at a time to see which ones are usable and which aren't. Once you identify which file(s) are corrupted, you can try to recover the game you were playing in that game slot by renaming and copying the backup file into the Plant Tycoon folder (e.g. rename PlantTycoon21.ldw to PlantTycoon1.ldw). If the backup file is intact, you will be able to continue playing that game. Although you may lose a small amount of progress that you had made in the game, you won't have to start over.
