Charley is our young story teller, and he loves to help people with Virtual Villagers. He and Katlyn (another of our young fans) have collaborated on a new guide, which contains helpful tips and information about Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children.

Charley and katlynbird714's guide to Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children
CAUTION: DON'T READ THIS GUIDE UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPOIL ALLMOST THE ENTIRE GAME FOR YOURSELF!!

Features:
Runs in Real-Time, so new things await, every time you switch the game on.
Loads of unique and customizable villagers.
Lots of unique collectibles.
Island Events to keep on your toes.
16 puzzles to complete.
Villagers become old and then get grey hair.
New hair styles.
Build a sewing hut, to customise your villagers!
Villagers now jump, and sometimes twirl!

Objective of the game: Continue the epic story in Virtual Villagers: The lost Children. As you take care of a tribe of little people, who had entered a cave and fell onto the western shore of Isola. So they need your help to survive and become farmers, doctors, parents, scientists, and builders! To solve the 16 mystery puzzles of the island of Isola.

The hints:
You will stop getting Esteemed Elders/totems after reaching 50. But a certain event may allow you to go up to 51.
If you keep trying to breed a male villager with a female villager that is over 50, you can keep making the male villager keep kissing the female villager. This is a good way to help achieve an Esteemed Elder.
After a villager has been buried, you can click on the gravestone and change the comment of the villager's gravestone.
Level 3 exploration allows you to have the ability to see mushrooms and collectibles on the map, but remember to refresh it like very 30 seconds, because it only registers ones that were on the map at that time. And level 3 exploration also seems to have an affect on the rarity of collectibles.
Duplicate common collectibles add 100 tech points.
Duplicate uncommon collectibles add 250 tech points.
Duplicate rare collectibles add 1500 tech points.
If you place an adult villager on a child, the adult villager should tell a story to the child.
If you put an adept or master parent on a child, the adult will go and "teach the children".
Villagers need to be 18 to breed, and 14 to work. But females stop having children at 50. But will still go and breed. And when they care for children, they get parenting skill.
To help get an elder quickly, wait until your population is at a halt, then keep making a boy and a girl kiss each other. This soon gets you a master parent too!
Mushrooms and collectibles still appear, even if the game is paused.
These are about all the hints available from the mask:
1. Reaching a milestone can benefit your villagers.
2. Medicine reduces disease and extends longevity.
3. There are many useful spots to which you can drag your villagers.
4. One male villager can farther many children.
5. Pause the game if you go away for very long.

10. Building more huts supports a larger population.

12. Sometimes villagers stubbornly do what they want.
13. Time passes whether you're playing the game or not.
14. If your healer is sick, who is healing your villagers?
15. Adult villagers are naturally excellent swimmers.
16. safe and happy villagers attempt new things.
17. Isola is pronounced ee-zoh-lah!
18. It can take several tries to teach something to a villager.
19 Certain herbs on the island can be examined.
20. Success a task may require meeting key requirements first.
21. Sick villagers tend to hang around the fire.
22. Master Scientists generate more tech points than others.
23. Nursing villagers do not work.
24. A master in several skills becomes an elder.

Keypad and and shortcuts:
Shortcuts:
P= Takes you to the puzzle screen.
D= Takes you to the villagers detail screen.
M= Takes you to the map screen.
T= Takes you to the technology screen.
C= Takes you to the collections screen.
Keypad:
To use these, you should have the numb lock on. You can press the numbers from, 1 to 9. You can zip around the island using this. It's especially good for catching collectibles and mushrooms quickly.

Collectibles:
>From time to time, little ornaments will appear around the island, if you want to get it, grab a child and drop the child on the collectibles. Adults can't see collectibles. In total, there are 48 unique different collectibles, and 4 gong pieces, so if you want, you could also count it as 52 collectibles. When you complete a set, like getting all the butterflies, you'll earn something special. When you get all of the collectibles, you'll get a really cool reward. This screenshot is from my very first complete game, showing were all of the places collectibles show up, but butterflies show up just about every where, so they are not marked.

Mushrooms:
Mushrooms are another thing children can pick up, they can be brown or red. Brown mushrooms are worth 6 pieces of food, and red is worth 35 pieces of food. But get the mushrooms quick, if you want to, as they disappear quick!

Making a baby:
If you have a male and a female, who are over 18, drop one on the other, which will encourage them to have a baby. But the mother will nurse the baby until the baby is 2. And will not do anything until that time is up. If the parents were masters, then the baby may have better skills, culture helps too.

Villager's like affects:
Some likes in a villager's detail help them be good at 1 or more skills. I (Charley) made a chart, showing just about all the good likes, and there affects:
Medicine = Will be likely to succeed better in healing.
Lifting = Will be likely to succeed better at building.
Herbs = Will be likely to train in healing from herbs better.
Turnips = Will be able to farm in the field better.
Fish = Will be able to succeed better in fishing.
Work = Will be able to train the villager easier.
Learning = Villager will train in skills better than others.
Running = Villager will run and will be likely to complete tasks faster.

Researching:
Drag an adult villager to the table, south of the thorns. Wait for a few seconds, while the villager is researching, if he/she didn't succeed with the research, then he/she will say "No", or something like that. But keep trying, if a villager does succeed, your tech points will go up. You have to research, so you can buy new technology to improve the island, and to help with completing all 16 puzzles.

Gong affects:
Here is a list of all the Gong of Wonder's powers I have experienced:
Gong grants wisdom (Makes the villager who rang the bell, be a master at a skill).
Gong grants food
Gong grants tech points (I think)
Gong taken away health
Gong grants technology
Gong grants health
Gong grants luck

The puzzles:
Puzzle 1: Fire
Requirements: (none).
Take an adult villager to south-west of the village, and drop the adult villager on the wood, next to the broken hut. Where he/she will take some wood to grey stones, in the village centre. Then, take an adult villager to the north-west of the village, and drop the adult villager in the corner, until the villagers action line says "Gathering dry grass". After the dry grass has been taken to the rocks, where the grey stones are, and the pile of wood, take an adult villager to kindle the rocks and wood.

Puzzle 2: The Dam
Requirements: You need level 2 of engineering.
Grab an adult villager and drop him/her on the rocks, just near the bottom of the pond. Where he/she will say "Building a dam". This takes a lot of time, so you might as well spend that time up on finding mushrooms and collectibles if you still have kids.

Puzzle 3: The scarecrow
Requirements: Completion of puzzle 2.
Take an adept or master farmer to the twisted vines and wood, which is north of the research table. You'll have to do this two times to get the full scarecrow. You'll need to do this, or birds will eat you're crops!

Puzzle 4: Cutting Tools
Requirements: A master Scientist and level 2 exploration technology.
Take a master scientist to the wood and vines, north of the research table. He will "see something", drop him on it. Then after the master scientist has taken the item back to the research hut, drag him back into the same area, this time, take him to the roots, so the line underneath his action line will say "You need a special type of wood to make the tools." Now, the roots are the wood, so let the master scientist take the wood back to the research hut. And you've completed this puzzle!

Puzzle 5: Herb Mastery
Requirements: (None).
Take an adult villager to 6 herbs, each time they've successfully studied it, it will say something like you're villagers have mastered this plant, and you can move onto the next plant. Here are the locations, in a a clockwise direction from the ocean:
In the north-west corner, where the ocean and the sand meets, Herb 1: Drop a villager to the purple flower, that's leaning just over the rocks.
Herb 2: Drag an adult villager to the blue rose, just between the thorns that are blocking the cave, and the silver rocks. Now, drop the villager on that herb.
Herb 3: Look for a tiny blue flowers, that are kind of bundled together, next to the silver rocks. Then drop the villager on the herb.
Herb 4: This herb is like the last 2, it's around the graveyard. Look for a string of purplish black flowers. And drop the villager on the herb.
Herb 5: Look on the south side of the vines that look like there covering the wall, next to the pond. And look for a pinkish red flower, drop the villager on it.
herb 6: Look around the bottom of the island, for an orange flower, and as always, drop a villager on it.

Puzzle 6: The Elder Totem
Requirements: (None).
You need to make a villager master 3 skills, this villager will be known as an elder. You should get a totem after this has been achieved.

Puzzle 7: Sustainable Fishing
Requirements: Level 3 farming, and a master scientist or a master farmer.
After fishing for a long time, algae will grow in your ocean and your fishermen will refuse to fish and will say that they are disgusted by the algae. So grab a master scientist or a master farmer, and drop them in the pond. And the villager says that he/she identifies algae-eating fish. This fish looks like the Canary-Fire-Arrow from Fish Tycoon, and let the villager take the fish to the ocean, let her/him do this about 10 times.

Puzzle 8: The Vine Wall
Requirements: Level 3 culture, and completion of puzzle 4.
Drop a villager to the wall on the east that is covered with vines. And he/she will go and get the cutting tools, to cut down the vines. This may be a while, but not too long. And when you do complete it, you can drop a villager on the wall to reveal a message. Here is a screenshot of the message:

Puzzle 9: The Stew
Requirements: level 2 exploration, completion of puzzle 1, at least 1 of the flowers mastered, and retrieved the cauldron, from the pile of wood.
To make stews follow this method:
1. Take an adult villager to the cauldron (after you find it) where that villager's action line will say "Preparing a stew".
2. Take the villager to the cauldron again, so he/she will say "Adding food to the stew" and do this again, until he/she says "Adding water to the stew".
3. Now take the villager to the herbs, that are around the island, until 3 herbs have been put into the stew.
4. Let your villages enjoy the stew! If it's a good one!

Puzzle 10: The Ancient Mosaic
Requirements: Level 3 of culture and engineering and completion of puzzle 2.
Drag a villager to the ancient ruins, and let the villager "uncover the ancient ruins." This puzzle takes quite a bit of time.

Puzzle 11: The Hospital
Requirements: Level 3 engineering and medicine.
After gaining level 3 in medicine and engineering, you should see a starting of a 2-digit hut, near the bottom of the island. Take an adult villager to it, so he/she will say "Building a hospital". And wait for them to complete it.

Puzzle 12: The Sewing Hut
Requirements: Level 2 culture.
After gaining level 2 culture, you will see a new hut, that is right at the bottom of the village. You have to get your villagers to build it. When they have, you can drag a villager to the hut, and buy new cloths, but it costs 5000 tech points to change.

Puzzle 13: The Sunken Gong Piece
Requirements: Completion of puzzle 9, and a certain stew.
After making the right stew, which is 2 of the red flowers, and 1 of the black flower. Make a villager eat this stew, and the line below the villagers action line will say, "Strange stew... your villager feels the the need to not breathe!" Then take this villager to the 'slide' part of the pond, then wait for a few seconds, and the villager will pop up again, and will take the sunken piece of gong to the research hut. And you've completed this puzzle! Or you can complete puzzle 8, and look at the writing and stuff on the wall.

Puzzle 14: The Inlaid Gong Piece
Requirements: Completion of puzzle 10, and completion 6.
Drop an elder totem on the middle of the mosaic, to reveal a piece of gong, pretty easy really.

Puzzle 15: The Boxed Gong Piece
Requirements: 3 master builders.
Drag the 3 master builders to the crate on the beach, where they will use there strength to open the expertly sealed crate.

Puzzle 16: The Overgrown Gong Piece
Requirements: Completion of puzzle 4.
Take an adult villager to the thorns, where he/she will get the cutting tools to cut down the thorns.

Well you've "normally completed" the game. But if you want to actually have a "fully" completed game, then take a look at these screenshots:
