See, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and that's when the family gathers and everyone asks what everyone else wants for Christmas. I might want to put VV2 on my list. So far all I can think of is a wireless keyboard.

Well everyone keep your fingers crossed! Christmas is only four and one half weeks away. And I’m under the assumption that Beta Testing has not yet started. So it looks like the possibility of getting this released by Christmas will be a tall order. Not trying to be negative, just realistic.

Yeah, it seems a bit soon to me, too. But then, I don't know how long the last one took between beta testing and release, either.

Most beta testing has a life span of around 90 days. But VV2 could be a little different since LDW does not have to start from scratch. So I would envision that first beta could be "labeled" as a .70 or .80 version. If that assumption is correct, a thorough beta test could take as little as 30 days. Keep in mind it takes around 5 to 7 days to complete the present puzzles and milestones in VV “A New Home”. As well as typically with each new beta version you need to delete all files from the previous version to insure you are testing a clean version. Thereby you would have to start over with each new beta version.

This is purely speculative on my part, but it does seem logical.

I agree VI!! I beta tested a game at the beginning of September and it's only just been released in the last week or so!!

I can't see VV2 being out for Christmas, but then again, I still believe in Santa, haha!! So, you never know....

Best of Irish,
Maura

I've never beta tested a game, but have tested lots of other software, both alpha and beta. Testing times have varied enormously from several months to only a couple of weeks. It is very difficult in programming to put a time on a release. All can seem to be going well, then a bug is reported which means scrapping huge chunks of code and starting nearly from scratch.

Although I don't code actual programs at work, I am involved with some 22,000 users constantly bugging us asking when (exactly) a new release will be coming out, and I feel like replying "When it's ready. If you stopped asking it would be even sooner as we'd have more time to spend doing what we should." However, I like my job too much.

I would say, though, that we are getting dangerously close to the year-end.

I don't disagree with you at all Arnie. About 95% of the games I have ever tested have always taken right around 90 days. And what LDW has going for it is the fact that they already have a lot of playing time under their belt as to the main engine of VV. All they really have to work through is the "new" features. But they still have the issue with the amount of time it takes to finish the game.

But like you said, you never really know. I'm sure they are fixing a lot of the bugs as they test internally, so it could be a release candidate with the first beta. Let's hope so.

It's not often I find I like these sort of games cos they usually involve guns, armies and fighting or at the very least argueing over territory (which I don;t like).

Wow, I couln't have said that any better. I totally agree. It is really hard to find a sims with out any kind of violence of some sort in them.

I also am looking forward to this new VV2 and I will be buying it as soon as it hits the market.

Thanks everyone who makes it possible for us to play these non violent sims games.

Are VV2 beta tester just going to test the new features
or are they going to test the Whole game because I think it is waste of time to test the old feature that appear in VV1
so maybe they should just test the new features

I would think part of the point of beta testing would be to make sure that the new features and old mesh correctly. Cause no bugs.
