Okay. The first bug I mentioned has a shorter name than the second bug I mentioned. I hope that helps! grin

To clarify, I have both of these mystery bugs, but if you're missing three I'll bet that it's the two I'm missing plus one of the blank-name bugs I so HELPFULLY provided. whistle

Oh, sure. One is a chilopod and the other isn't a bug at all.

Oh, and it's not CALLED a chilopod!

Those are VERY specific hints. *smiling sweetly and filing nails that are already perfect*

Okay, Aviatrix. wink I have the chilopod so I'm guessing it's the non-bug, which I have yet to figure out.

I'd like to think that a chilopod was a small, dried vegetable that you can throw into a pot of stewed meat and - voila! - instant perfect chili! wink

Googling it is easier and quicker than the way I learned about it, which was by taking a college course in entomology. Funny, I thought I signed up for a course in etymology, which judging from the outcome, I sorely needed. grin

Fun entomology facts! About 40% of all known insect species are beetles, and 90-95% of all known animal species are insects, so if you are not a plant, a fungus, or some other weird "lower" life form like a slime mold, then chances are pretty high you're a beetle.

10 of the collectible "bugs" in VT are beetles, and since only 45 of the 55 "bugs" are actually insects (and only ONE is a true bug, or none if you're really picky), there should be about 8 more beetles in the mix. There are 15 butterflies and moths, which is way out of Earthly proportion but very pretty. Of course, nobody said VT was on Earth.

Non insect bugs include:
Click to reveal..
6 spiders, 2 arthropods, and one each annelid and mollusk (mollusc). It may take some more googling, but that's a big ol' clue to what I think is the mysterious missing "bug".

I'm bored and on a roll and want to use my college education for something other than laundry and dusting, so for anyone who has read this far, 13 of the 15 butterflies and moths have either butterfly or moth in their name (list in spoiler tags below). Which of the other two VT bugs are in this order of insects?

List of butterflies and moths (you've probably seen all of these if you've been playing a few weeks):
Click to reveal..
Clorinde, Common Mormon, Julia, Monarch, Tiger Swallowtail Giant Owl, Mission Blue, Tailed Jay, Zebra, Blue Morpho, Giant Atlas, Green Moss Peacock and Orange Barred. That leaves two which are in this group but do not have butterfly or moth in their name. One is pretty easy at least if you're from North America and went to grade (grammar) school. The other one might be trickier.

One final spoiler:
Click to reveal..
The only true bug in VT is the Cicada which is in the insect order Hemiptera. Picky people restrict the true bugs to a sub-order, Heteroptera, which doesn't include the Cicada, but those people are picky.

If this was too long, I beseech you to remember:
