I am missing 3. Look at the details of adoption candidates to see what bugs they like, dislike or have phobias about to help work out what you have not yet found.

Some bugs are seasonal. I hope that we don't have to wait until the summer ...

The two I am missing are the two mentioned in spoiler texts above. I've known for quite a while what they were and have some (unproven) ideas about the requirements for them to appear, but that hasn't helped me find them.

Candy_63, now we need to know what the 3rd one is. I suspect that we're missing the same 3 bugs.

I'll bet you're both missing a ____ or perhaps a _________. grin The reason is that those are the last two I got (still missing two others), with the exception of the game where I couldn't find a Click Beetle for the life of me. Sorry, but Click Beetles, while classified as uncommon, are not supposed to be difficult to find. I was probably just never playing that game at the correct time of day.

Okay. The first bug I mentioned has a shorter name than the second bug I mentioned. I hope that helps! grin

To clarify, I have both of these mystery bugs, but if you're missing three I'll bet that it's the two I'm missing plus one of the blank-name bugs I so HELPFULLY provided. whistle

Oh, sure. One is a chilopod and the other isn't a bug at all.

Oh, and it's not CALLED a chilopod!

Those are VERY specific hints. *smiling sweetly and filing nails that are already perfect*

I'd like to think that a chilopod was a small, dried vegetable that you can throw into a pot of stewed meat and - voila! - instant perfect chili! wink

Googling it is easier and quicker than the way I learned about it, which was by taking a college course in entomology. Funny, I thought I signed up for a course in etymology, which judging from the outcome, I sorely needed. grin

Fun entomology facts! About 40% of all known insect species are beetles, and 90-95% of all known animal species are insects, so if you are not a plant, a fungus, or some other weird "lower" life form like a slime mold, then chances are pretty high you're a beetle.

10 of the collectible "bugs" in VT are beetles, and since only 45 of the 55 "bugs" are actually insects (and only ONE is a true bug, or none if you're really picky), there should be about 8 more beetles in the mix. There are 15 butterflies and moths, which is way out of Earthly proportion but very pretty. Of course, nobody said VT was on Earth.

Non insect bugs include:
Click to reveal..
6 spiders, 2 arthropods, and one each annelid and mollusk (mollusc). It may take some more googling, but that's a big ol' clue to what I think is the mysterious missing "bug".

I'm bored and on a roll and want to use my college education for something other than laundry and dusting, so for anyone who has read this far, 13 of the 15 butterflies and moths have either butterfly or moth in their name (list in spoiler tags below). Which of the other two VT bugs are in this order of insects?

List of butterflies and moths (you've probably seen all of these if you've been playing a few weeks):
Click to reveal..
Clorinde, Common Mormon, Julia, Monarch, Tiger Swallowtail Giant Owl, Mission Blue, Tailed Jay, Zebra, Blue Morpho, Giant Atlas, Green Moss Peacock and Orange Barred. That leaves two which are in this group but do not have butterfly or moth in their name. One is pretty easy at least if you're from North America and went to grade (grammar) school. The other one might be trickier.

One final spoiler:
Click to reveal..
The only true bug in VT is the Cicada which is in the insect order Hemiptera. Picky people restrict the true bugs to a sub-order, Heteroptera, which doesn't include the Cicada, but those people are picky.

If this was too long, I beseech you to remember:

Aviatrix, this is very interesting and I really mean that smile It took me a while to read all wink

I also have the chilopod (if its name in the game starts also with a C).

However, I have no new idea regarding the missing "bugs" in my game frown

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed that post, Aviatrix! smile I figured out what my mystery bug was, and believe it or not, I actually found 2 of them today. I think your post brought them out. laugh

Ginnygirl,
Click to reveal..

If it's the worm you're missing, I found them when it rained. I had already caught all of my bugs when it started raining, so I closed and reopened the game, then I found 2 of them next to the river.

The green one I have is the inchworm. The one I caught this morning was just a worm (looked like an earthworm, but it just said "Worm" when I picked it up.

On the north side, in the same spot where I typically find the caterpillars. Near one of those tiny little patches of grass that sits alongside the river.

I would tell you, Ginny, but I thought I knew where to look for it and spent the better part of the early afternoon here looking (the conditions were right to find it) and found nothing.

Judging from the little stands in my museum, it is a rare species, made rarer by those conditions I mentioned but didn't elaborate upon.

Candy_63, I think you are correct about what you are missing, and congratulations on your find!

Yeah, that's where and when I looked. I found one in a game that I've since restarted. There are a couple of other places and situations that I suspect are good for it, but so far no dice.

Although I do NOT think this is where it is found, it should be found in a damp, forested area, perhaps on the coast, especially if the game had coastal hills. Think the California/Oregon coast from Santa Cruz to the Washington border. That's where I've found them in real life, lol. I am probably the only VT player who owns an actual book devoted entirely to the biology of this critter. (Ooops, I almost named it there, but I don't want to use spoiler tags.) They are REALLY interesting!

I've cut down almost all my trees in the game. I don't remember if there are marshy areas near the original Northern Forest, between the cave and the beach, but if it was true to life that's where I'd look for it. To repeat, that is not where I think it is found in the game.

Aviatrix, I have found some Click Beetles

I found one today, and dispatched the Click Beetle a few days ago. Now, my Kindle game is just missing one bug (guess which! undoubtedly the same one sunshower is missing) to complete the entire museum collection. The Android game is younger and is missing more but has a complete mineral collection finally.

In case you're bad at guessing,
