I found that I scare bugs when I water my flowers. So today I took my gold bug net and tapped it all around my dry flowers. I caught a new bug - I had scared one like this away once before so I'm very happy to have donated a new bug to the museum. I couldn't see this bug in the flowers. It might have been behind the maple. I'm going to try this each day and see what I get. I don't suppose you really harm the flowers if you don't water as often...

*The cave usually has 3 bugs each time you start the game.
*The gold bug net makes it easier to catch the clorinde butterflies.
*Leave a hole and see what bugs spawn near it.
*Sometimes I leave some grass to see what will spawn in it.
*Weeds can attract flies.

I just realized, I haven't had any trapdoor spiders since I stopped leaving holes in the garden, and they're worth 140 coins! Thanks for this post, I'm going to go and dig some holes!

Wow, thank you for the advice! It never occurred to me to leave a hole in the garden. I am usually trying to fill them because of the beauty level. I am going to try that! smile

Me too! I was so excited! Bug hunting was more profitable than usual today, too. Lots of red lily beetles and even a couple of giant atlas moths, etc.

Cool, I'll look out for the dragonflies. smile I've gotten 2 new bugs in the last few days, which made me think the game is adapting to the upcoming change in seasons.

I'm pretty sure they were not added today. Bugs are seasonal. I'm just glad the game thinks it's spring. My allergies agree.

I got the dragonflies yesterday, and today I got 3 more new bugs. Spring has most definitely sprung. Now I only need 4 more bugs to complete my collection. I finished the mineral collection yesterday. smile

Now if I could just get more plant hybrids, I'd be good to go.

The north bank of the river between the north and south lands often has caterpillars, earwigs, termites, and inch worms. You have to be in close-up view to see them, or at least I do.

I just go there and swing my net blindly. It works on occasion. I discovered this (my poor eyesight, that is) when I was swinging for a caterpillar and got an earwig. Then another earwig. Finally I got the caterpillar!

Which bugs only come out in the rain? I always look for new bugs when it rains but I never see any.

I aim for the base of the tree trunk when they're on trees. Aiming at the base of the lamp post gets those circling the light as often as not, as well.

Termite? I only see the two scorpions and the silverfish. I've never seen a termite in the cave. Although, I suppose a termite could be there; it's tiny and the cave is dark.

I used to get two scorpions and one other which sometimes was a termite, but recently is only a silverfish each time.

Can someone tell me where to find the termite? I figured near a house or building, and in previous posts I'm hearing mixed feelings about the cave. I've never seen one in the cave.

I've only caught a termite a few times. The last time was in the grassy space between two houses. The problem is that it's very tiny so is hard to spot. I've never seen one in the cave.

If you know what an earwig looks like, they look sort of like a red earwig. Here's a picture of the earwig next to the termite. If you can find them in this picture, you'll have a better idea what you're looking for.

I've seen them several places. That spot on the north side of the river that sometimes has caterpillars also sometimes has termites in the evening, but they're rare there. Otherwise I've mostly seen them in town, either in grassy areas or along the town sidewalk. Try different times of day, too. I don't think they're necessarily an evening bug, but I haven't paid enough attention to say with certainty.

I sometimes find the termite in the little patches of grass on the north side of the river.

Okay, this is something I haven't seen before. I've seen the Banana Slug against the buildings (very rare) and on the north bank of the middle river (rare) and once in the grass just south of the General Store, heading for the buildings. They do move until they reach a barrier, and that barrier is usually the buildings or the north bank of the river.

But this time I saw one moving north through the Botanical Garden. Fumble fingers that I am, I couldn't snap the screen shot until the slug was right up against the fence. They move pretty fast for slugs. I snagged him (150 coins!) rather than wait to see if he could get through the fence.

Has anyone got any tips on catching dragonflies? Have caught a couple with immense amounts of patience! Just wondered if anyone has an easy method?

I've just started this game and don't know how to catch a butterfly. Maybe it's a monarch. It flies around the courtyard area to the right (my right) and in front of the Town Hall. It never "lands" just flies around and around so I find that my mayor slaps the net down to no avail. Do I need a gold net? I've only got a silver one at present.

Is it flying round a lamppost in the evening? Aim at the foot of the post - that usually works after a couple of tries.

Aim for the shadow of flying bugs. The larger the net the easier they are to catch.

Hmm. Never considered aiming for the shadows. Thank you for your suggestion. I did catch a butterfly by aiming for the lamppost, so I'll add shadow watching to my repertoire, lol.

So the banana slug is quite small? I couldn't see it in the screenshot? It appears skinnier than the revolting slugs that I have to clean up?

The Banana Slug is small but not as small as an Earwig. It is yellow. In my screenshot it is unfortunately raining and it looks like a streaking raindrop. Look along the upper fence line, inside the Botanical Garden, to the right of the fence opening, above the third Blueflower Lemongrass plant. Hope that helps.
