CHAPTER 1: IT'S ALL ARRANGED.
Luna's bare feet were cold on the alchemy lab's stone floor. She shivered a little as she unpacked the few potions that she had been able to take with her on the conquest for new territory. Luna closed her eyes as she remembered it. The cheif's voice had been kind but firm. They WERE going to go on that raft to new lands, and they were going to do it that very day! The tribe had looked up to the goddess to see who would be chosen, and seven were picked. Luna and her father, Katas, were two of the seven. Endesha, the chief's, was also chosen. Luna didn't care for him.
The brown-haired girl sighed as she set down the last of her healing potions on the table. This alchemy lab was wrecked! How were they supposed to live here? Of course, since they had no other choice, they had to. But that didn't mean that it would be fun!
Luna heard a noise behind her, and she quickly turned to see who it was. She was surprised to see it was Meelo--a young scientist who she had never really talked to back at home. "Oh, uh, hello." she said hesitantly. Looking down, she asked, "Do you need help with those boxes?" Meelo gave a quick and grateful nod as Luna took one off the top. She set it on the table in the science area of the lab and noticed that it was full of old seashells, but that it had a peculiar stink. Luna wrinkled up her nose at the horrible stench and said a quick goodbye to Meelo before running outside to escape the scent.
Once outside, Luna almost ran straight into Ven and Juno. They were husband and wife, and had apparently been on one of their daily walks before they were interrupted. Luna whispered a "sorry" before heading on. She didn't want to be delayed any longer--she had to speak to her father! She walked quickly, her bare feet raising small clouds of dust as they hit the ground. In a moment, she was at the hut where she and her father stayed, and she walked inside.
Katas was sitting in the hut's corner, apparently thinking hard about something. Luna put her hand on his shoulder so that he would know she was there, and he looked up at her and smiled. "Luna, please sit down." he said in his rough, sandy voice. Luna quickly did so and then looked up at him. "What is he going to say?" she wondered. It only took a few seconds for her to find out. "Luna, as you know, the chief sent us a piece of bark with instructions on what to do when we got settled in a place carved on it. I read the instructions today, and it seems that one of them involves you." Luna gave a quick nod--this was interesting! Katas cleared his throat and then continued the speech. "The chief arranged a marriage between you and Endesha. You are to marry him next month, now that you have come of age." Katas smiled at his daughter, proud as a parrot.
However, on Luna's face was a look of horror. An arranged marriage? With ENDESHA? This could not be! Please no, it could not be! But when Luna grabbed the piece of bark and read what was on it, she realized it was true.
She was pledged to be married to Endesha. Why? Because he was the old chief's son?
