The peeps operate on a more-or-less 24-hour cycle. If you can only play in the evenings, you would probably benefit from switching the day/night cycles so that the peeps are in their daytime hours and have more energy. Once it gets to be evening in the game, they tend to be lower in energy as they follow their normal daily rhythms.
Many people have reported that they have several games going simultaneously in two or more player slots, so that they can experiment with a style of play and day/night cycles that works well for them.

If you are playing at night use Change Day/Night from the options.

If you log in when it's daytime for the peeps they shouldn't be tired. If you leave the game off for several hours they should recover their energy. They need their sleep as much as anyone! There is no quick fix for tiredness, just rest. The energy drink if it's found in the store will give one of them a temporary boost, but its effects don't last long.

What version of the game are you playing (look on the Menu screen)? If it's before 1.00.04, then you don't have the latest adjustments to energy levels. The latest version is 1.00.05, as described in Arthur's sticky post, but be careful to read the notes in bold about obtaining the update from the same place you purchased the game originally.

Yeah, you've got to let your peeps sleep. Pausing the game and "peeking" after they've gone to bed keeps them exhausted.
I have 5 games going. Two are "day" games, and the other 3 are "reverse day/night" games. When I get up in the morning, I first check the "night" people. They eat, clean the house and themselves, read emails, whatever needs to be done. When everyone is full and everything is done, I switch to another night game. After the night games are sorted, I "wake up" my day people...doing all the things I do for the night people. THESE are the people I check on during the day. The "night" people I check on after 7 pm or so.
For me "daytime" is about 9:30 am to 7:30 pm. and nighttime is the opposite.
I rarely have exhausted peeps, except at the end of their "day".
