I just put it with the kids' toys in the corner of their room. Another storage spot might be the sandbox. If you want it right out of the way, there are plenty of places at the edges of the screen where you are unlikely to click on it accidentally.

It's so fun to play with :3 I can't BELIEVE that in two years of playing virtual families I hadn't found it! I thought this was a joke at first but it's real!
Virtual Families: I had a ball and it disappeared.

If you put it in your inventory, and find it again, you can get as much as empty spaces in your inventory... ...after that, no more, so if you have 5 open spaces in your inventory, you can "clone" your ball 4x for a total of 5 balls.
