I just signed in to the game this morning and TWO kids went off to college. We had the full six! We had 5 and adopted one, with the last one being birthed to Eva at 44, after maybe 8 tries.

This is my first gen Family which I took a screenshot of their pet turtle sleeping with one of the kids. You can just see the turtle under his head like a pillow. The turtle followed and slept with this kid all the time until he went off to college.

Has anyone noticed how the kids don't seem to look much like the parents, but look like each other? My family will demonstrate:

They seem to look like their parents to me, if the mother was the one on the top left and father is the one in the checkered blue shirt. I find it easier to pick out family traits on the family screen where you can see the close ups of their faces. If you go through the family screens in this thread you can sort of reverse-engineer the genetics at work.

My only blonde family member, for example, was adopted, and mom and dad have red / brown hair and blue / brown eyes. so the kids tend to have a mixture of their hair color or darker, but not lighter, and would have the eyes of one of the parents.

I think they resemble the parents somewhat, like this girl and her dad:

Actually, the mom is the one with black hair. I can see a resemblance between the youngest (red dress) and the mom - their hair is up in a similiar style. But since neither of the parents are redheads, I just thought it was kind of strange.
