Wasn't Q a Star Trek character on Next Generation? Maybe they are doing a series of space games. The first is Q1, the next Q2, etc. Then then just add the year of release for fun. Saves the trouble of coming up with names.

Not really; usually VV games are called "Virtual Villagers: something something something" not just the number, which we use here as shorthand for the full title.
