...I am Onawa,the last surviving person of the Neretha-Zen Tribe. I have witnessed the deaths of my friends & family as a tsunami rushed in, killing everyone but me & my 2 unborn babes.

Before they were swept away I bore my husband, Orubi, a little boy. Orubi always hoped he'd have a son. I wish I could tell him how his wish came true, and I wish he was here now.

We have lots of food, but I am ill, and there is no-one to heal me. I pray for my little boy every night. I promised myself I would never cry. I will fight for my child before I die, "I AM THE LAST LADY OF THE NERETHA-ZEN TRIBE! I WILL FIGHT!"

...I am Raraku. I am all alone,and no-one but the wind is here to play with me. Mommy is gone,and so is Safari,my sister. I miss them. I want someone to play with besides the wind. I guess I will have to hope,for I am only two. I hope someone can come,for it is frightening,being alone,with the wind.

Mommy left me lots of food,but she and Safari are gone anyway. It is dark at night, and I can hear ghosts whisper stories to me, especially Safari.

Safari got stung by ants in a bag. Mommy had no-one to heal her. I will not try on the robe unless I have to. Mommy told me that was bad. I want to live to see the thing the ghosts were whispering about. But I can only hope...

Wow!Today someone came by barrel.She looks like Safari,and she likes to dream,run,and even sing!Hearing her sing is a true delight.She says her name is Lark.A lark is a bird,(what is a bird?)but in our language,it means "little dreamer". Her voice is soft and musical,like the little harp Safari used to carry around.Tomorrow is my birthday.When I told her,she looked out of the window,and told me that I reminded her of her dead twin brother. Three years ago,Lark was born.A twister came,killing everyone eccept her and her brother.Her brother soon died of hunger.Feeling a dreadful loss tugging at her soul,she crawled into a barrel and set off,and that is how she found me... I lost a sister.She,a brother if we can act the opposites role,then I hope both hearts can slowly mend...

... I know Raraku has feelings. I know I do too. I have, as he, a loss. He has feelings for me. That, I know. He is but a boy, and he has been alone with only the wind and his friends, the ghosts. Just as I have been alone with the memory of my brother.

I think it will soon be time for dinner. I can smell honey and tea leaves. The tribe, as I have heard, purchased everything needed. They also honored Mother Nature.

Today two more orphans that I knew came. Leila and Nobu. Nobu has building skill, Leila loves reasearching, Raraku wants to farm, as Onawa did. I guess I am the tribe healer...

It has been many months since any of us have written in this sopping wet diary. Our tribe is thriving fast. This will be our last entry. I, personally, will set it in a bottle, and throw it into the ocean. To all memories here, goodbye.
