well i tried the orange purple and cactus and it blew up and killed my girl

If your combination caused the potion to blow up, try a higher level of alchemy. It gives you *less* of a chance to have potions blow up.

(All of the potions found by me so far have done *something* , i.e. they didn't blow up)

You need level 2 of whatever faction you chose, whichever one says a special herb!

orange purple cactus is tigerlily+lotus+cactus=very hungry. all my "recipes" have been brewed with 2nd level alchemy.

Does it matter which order you make the potions in? I tried this one and it just made my villagers sick
