It doesn't always happen that way. Sometimes the villager recovers. Also, if you choose to let it run its course, sometimes the villager recovers and sometimes dies.

i just got the "Low tide" one...bout the fish...grab the fish flopping or stay back from the beach warns some villagers....chose to stay back..bc i saw some peoples tribes got washed away when they chose the fish....nothing happened to my tribe as far as i can tell

I just had one about The Ancient Tablet. A tablet with strange markings was found and my choices were:
-focus research on tablet
or
-put it on display
Chose: focus research on the tablet.
Result: Got a higher level of alchemy but at the expense of 1000 tech points. (I only had level 2 alchemy at the time so it worked out great for me but I don't know if the result might be different if alchemy is already fully researched.)

i got that ancient tablet one also. i also got the level 3 alchemy from it.

I had the same event long ago. I choosed to grab the fishes and it gave me a quite amount of food without any harm. I gues there's a good deal of chance factor in the events.

I got one today saying something to the effect that my villagers were seeing more and more little yellow geckos, and as a result they felt healthier? Strange, but nice!
