There are children. On April 2, Carla released some sneak peek photos on this thread. {on pg.25 of this thread} If you look at the one that appears to be the hospital (where Amaca is laying down and "not feeling welL" there is what looks like a child to me on the very right side of the photo...

It's difficult to tell for sure, but Amaca might be a child herself. After all, she is untrained.

To me, she does not look like a child. Besides, there is a kid in the background near her.

According to the screen shots there will definitely be children. Unless someone joined the game soon after it starts. The first screen shows 7 villagers listed and all 7 are shown in the pic.

The child must have grown from a baby really fast to already be walking around that soon. Maybe mothers don't nurse so long now?

Gosh, I sure will be glad when VV3 comes out so we can all find out what's changed and what it looks like!!!!

ETA: Just looked again at the screen shots. Looks like two different games since Amaca isn't shown in the other pic......the one with all 7 showing.
