Young Charley has written another of his special guides, this one for Plant Tycoon! \:\)

In addition to the guide below, you can check out Charley's guides page for breeding combinations and other helpful guides.

Charley's Guide to Plant Tycoon for Windows
Caution! DANGEROUSE SPOILERS BELOW. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO TOTALLY SPOIL YOUR GAME!!!!!! THIS IS FULL OF SPOILERS ABOUT THE MAGIC PLANTS, TIPS AND MORE!!!

Story:
Plant Tycoon is a game set on the Magical Island of Isola. Your challenge is to find the 6 Magic Plants of Isola, through a genetic puzzle! Plant Tycoon is also called PT for short.

Tap tips:
All of these can be found by clicking on the tap on the 'Main' screen.

The shop's seed inventory changes once a day.
Pause the game if you go away for very long.
You can drag a seed to the seed button.
Magic Plants are automatically re-potted in golden pots.
Some exotic plants survive only in special soil.
Plants produce seeds after you pollinate them.
The effect of Magic Plants is automatic and permanent.
Each Magic Plant has a unique effect.
Dead plants may still have seeds on them.
There are many approaches to solving the game.
There are over 500 species of plants!
Plants sell better if flowers are visible.
Only mature plants display there name.
The 'ESC' key will take you back one screen.
Trashing a pot containing dirt gives you a new pot.
Soil upgrades immediately benefit your plants.
Infested plants cannot be pollinated.
Mature plants produce pollen.
If your plants are dying, buy better soil.
Duplicate bugs are turned into cash.
Catching bugs can help finance your purchase.
Some plants can sell for more than $400.
Sneaking up on bugs with your net helps you catch them.
Double-clicking a pot will show what seed you planted.
If your plants sell quickly, your prices may be too low.
Pricing your plants too high inhibits sales.
Ornaments attract more visitors to your nursery.
Pruning plant foliage can improve plant help.
You can't rush Mother Nature!
Time passes whether you're playing the game or not.
Plants keep growing even when the game is off.
The number screens navigate from screen to screen.
The speed of time can be changed through Options.
Uprgaded nets help you catch the faster bugs.
Moving your hand too quickly scares bugs.
Careful! Pruning cannot be undone.
Certain chemicals can advance your breeding program.
Plants can be damaged by pruning.
You can rearrange your plants in the nursery.
Magic Plants attract visitors to your nursery.
Trashing unwanted seeds turns them into cash.
Infested plants have small black insects around them.
You can breed and sell Magic Plants you've found.
Isola is pronounced ee-zoh-lah!
Mutation liquid changes the DNA of the plant.
You can share snapshots of your plants.
'm', 'c', 'p', 's' and 'n' keys will change screens.
You can take snapshots of your favourite plants.

Hints from Charley:
Dead leaves (the ones that should be pruned) are brown.
To water a plant, simply click on your watering can and hold down the left mouse button to water a plant.
To put a soil in an empty pot, just click on your soil bag on your tools and hold the left mouse button down to fill the empty pot with soil.
If you want to take a screen shot of your plants, just click on the button. You can also arrange your plants to fit your needs of where you want them to be.
If you want to change the speed your game's running at, then go to the 'Menu' screen and click on the Options tab. Then you can change your game's speed.
A plant usually produces 4 or 5 seeds. And very rarely a 6th.
Some of the items you buy for your nursery can be clicked and things happen. Clicking on the flower wheelbarrow will make flower petals float out. Clicking on the turtle will squirt water. Clicking on the birdhouse will make a bird come out and chirp. Clicking on the Sundial will tell you how many real time hours you have played the game.
Certain plants seem to yield in certain bugs.
There is more than 1 combo for each Magic Plant!
If a plant has been damaged, and is in the right soil, it will eventually repair itself.
Using Insta-grow bomb or Insta-grow Formula on a plant that is producing seeds will also make the plant have all of it's seeds ready to be harvested.
You can price your Magic Plants really high (about 99999) if you are prone to selling them and do not want to sell them.

Hotkeys (shortcuts):
Pressing one of these keys are quick-shortcuts to save you moving your mouse.
M - Takes you to the 'Main' screen.
C - Takes you to the 'Collect' screen.
P - Takes you to the 'Supplies' screen.
S - Takes to the 'Seeds' screen.
N - Takes you to the 'Nursery' screen.
Space Bar - Automatically pauses your game.

Understanding flowers and their stems/leafs
The first name for the plant (Like Bluestar, Mystic, Aureus, Blazing) are the name for the flower on the plant. The last name(s) are as you can guess, the stems and leaf's name.

_bug_ cash:
Rare: $40
Uncommon: $20
Common: $5

Seed cash:
Tier 1 seeds are worth $1 each.
Tier 2 seeds are worth $3 each.
Tier 3 seeds are worth $5 each.
Tier 4 seeds are worth $10 each.

Nursery customers Thought bubbles:
When you go your Nursery to sell your plants, you'll often find that when you click on a customer, they'll display some "thinking bubbles". I have tried my best to try and figure out what these common ones mean.

= Maybe, he/she wants to see their baby?
= Don't know what plant to choose?
= Maybe you need your nursery upgraded with stuff?
= Going home.
= Cheap price he/she thinks.
= That customer thinks you have priced one of your plants too high.
= The customer thinks one of your plants needs to be taken care of.
= Happy with purchase.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)by Charley
Q. My plant won't sell, why?
A. Sometimes you may have a dead leaf or maybe the flowers are not visible.. If you find that you cannot sell the plant after a long time, trash it.

Q. How do I crossbreed plants?
A. Make sure you have 2 different plants that are matured and drag the pollen from one of the plants to the other plant. Be careful though, breeding exotic plants in lower grade soil can kill the plant.

Q. One of my plants is depleted, what does that mean?
A. It means that plant has produced enough seeds.

Q. The store's seed supply is gone!
A. The store restocks aproximatly every 24 hours.

This guide to getting a good start on the Magic Plants was written by Jazzo, with help from sfrose.

PT Getting Started Guide MAJOR SPOILERS
Don't Read Unless You Want to Spoil the Beginning of the Game, By: Jazzo

While reading this guide, you must be familiar with the following terms:
Prepare a pot: Put soil and water in.
Self-pollinate: Drag a mature plant's pollen onto itself.
X-Pollinate: (Cross pollinate) Drag a mature plant's pollen onto another mature plant.

Getting started. First off, prepare eight more pots, plant all the seeds in your seed tray and all the ones in seed storage. Next, make sure your game speed is set to "Fast" then use both doses of your insta-grow vaporbomb (The purple Vial) Now you are ready to start.

It's nice to start out with one of the six magic plants, and there are two magic plants that are good money-makers. They can both be bred from the starting plants usually and can survive to mature in the basic soil level. They are the Rosaceae Fern and the Fourpetal Maple. They can be bred with the following combinations.

You can get Fourpetal by X-Pollinating the following flowers:
Citrus + Jalapa
Fourpetal + Fourpetal
There are many other combinations but they will not be found in the starting plants.
You can get a maple by X-Pollinating the following types of foliage:
Ball Cactus + Maranta
Maple + Maple
There are many other combinations but they will not be found in the starting plants.
sfrose gave me some examples of breeds that get a fourpetal maple, also, this should help you understand the above:
Citrus Ball Cactus x Jalapa Maranta
Jalapa Ball Cactus x Citrus Maranta
Citrus Maple x Jalapa Maple
Fourpetal Ball Cactus x Fourpetal Maranta This is if your confused, so I hope you get now how it works.

You can get Rosaceae by X-Pollinating the following flowers:
Fourpetal + Spotted
Bluestar + Jalapa
Rosaceae + Rosaceae
There are many other combinations but they will not be found in the starting plants.
You can get a fern by X-Pollinating the following types of foliage:
Maple + Reptans
Astera + Maranta
Fern + Fern
There are many other combinations but they will not be found in the starting plants.
This means if you breed two types of flowers that make Rosaceae and two types of foliage that make Fern, you'll get a Rosaceae Fern.
Put it together to find two plants that can be x-pollinated to make a fourpetal maple and a rosaceae fern.
The Fourpetal maple should survive fine in the starting soil, but the Rosaceae fern will not survive as long so make sure to self-pollinate and sell it quickly. Keep seeds for the other plants and keep selling these two magic plants until you can buy the second level of soil (blue.) After that, there is another MP (Magic plant) you can start looking for. That is the fabled lemonbush. It will have a little bit of trouble surviving in the second soil level, but it will survive long enough. It also can sell for $436. You can get a fabled flower by x-pollinating the following flowers, some of which you might not have:
Citrus + Daisy
Venomous + Bluestar
Fourpetal + Rosaceae
Fragrant + Jalapa
Fabled + Fabled
If you don't have any of these, play around with x-pollinating.
You can get a lemonbush with the following combos:
Ball Cactus + Astera
Pipe Cactus + Fern
Maple + Maranta
Lemonbush + Lemonbush
Once you have that, keep making it and selling it until you can buy level 3 soil. Then, keep x-pollinating as you which, because in the gold soil, all plants will survive. The last three MPs are Nox Orchid, Aureus Scandens, and Mela Rare Oak. Also, keep making money to buy higher levels of water, shears, net, and more seed boxes. I usually buy upgrades in this order:
L2 Soil
L3 Soil
2nd Seed Box
L2 Water
L2 Net
3rd Seed Box
L2 Shears
L3 Water
L3 Net
L3 Shears
Keep x-pollinating and try to find as many interesting species as possible. I hope you're off to a good start!

PT Moneybags Guide
By: Jazzo
MAJOR SPOILERS
At the end of the guide, there is a step-by-step guide for making most of the plants mentioned here.

Part one of this guide should help you get a lot of money, but it is assuming you already have level 3 soil and all of the magic plants. If you do not, skip to part two.

Part 1:
The Aureus Scandens AKA Golden Berries is important for making money, because it makes customers spend money more eagerly. This means once you have this magic plant, you can price things higher.
The Nox Orchid AKA The Flower of Knowledge tells you the actual price of the plant. The price that it gives you before you’ve found the Nox Orchid, is lower than the real price. Let’s get started.

The best way to get money is with the Fabled Lemonbush, AKA the Fabled rose of Isola. After the Nox Orchid, the price you will get is $436 or something llike that. Go to the supply store, buy the bio-organic plant food, the regular plant food, and two fertilizer bombs. Now, plant fifteen Fabled Lemonbushes and give each one two doses of bio-organic plat food, one dose of regular plant food, then spray the fertilizer bomb twice on any plant. The fertilizer bomb, when used on one plant, effects all of them. Now, select one of the plants, click price, hit backspace three times and type in “1,020.” Changing the price of one plant will change the price of all plants of the same specie. You now have fifteen $1,020 plants. The amount you spent on plant food and fertilizer is only $550. In the end, from one batch of plants, you will have gained $15,300. This is enough money to buy all of the nursery items, assuming you have none already, which costs a total of $12,960, and still have $2,340 left.

Part 2: This is assuming you have only level 1 soil and only zero, one, or maybe two of the magic plants, because you don’t have enough money to buy the next upgrades. If you have level 2 soil, skip to part 3. Right now, you need to focus on getting level 2 soil, because more expensive and rare plants will survive in it. There are two plants you should get and those are the Fourpetal Maple and the Rosaceae Fern, both magic plants. The Rosaceae Fern sells for more, but it will have some trouble surviving in level one soil. It should be fine in level two soil. Look at the bottom of this guide for help on making most of the plants mentioned here. The Rosaceae fern has to be sold quickly, for it will be losing health, but make sure you self-pollinate it first. What you have to do is self-pollinate then sell five plants to make room. Then plant as 6 Rosaceae Ferns, and sell them each for $129. To change the price of a plant, click price, hit backspace until the numbers are cleared, and type in your price. Changing a plants price changes the price of all of the plants of the same specie. This will give you $774. Assuming you already have some money left over from the money you started with. This should be enough to buy level 2 soil for $850. Once you have level 2 soil, go to part three.

Part 3: You need to save up for level 3 soil before you try to find more magic plants. To do that, you should focus on these plants:
Venomous Grass which will sell for $136
Rosaceae Fern which will sell for $129 and is also a magic plant
Fabled Lemonbush which will have trouble surviving in only level 2 soil but should sell for $436 if you’re lucky and it makes it to maturity. It is also a magic plant.
Look at the bottom of this guide for help on making most of the plants mentioned here. Sell these three plants, but mostly the first two until you have enough to buy level 3 soil. Then once you have all the magic plants, go to part one. You can look in another guide for help making the three magic plants that have not been mentioned in parts 2 or 3.

Plant Breeding Guide:
This should help you breed the plants that have been mentioned in parts 2 and 3.
These are not all of the combinations to make these plants, just the ones with plants that you probably have. If you are still at this stage, these are your best options.

Jalapa Ball Cactus x Citrus Maranta

First, I highly recommend that before doing these procedures, you have:
Level 3 soil,
Multiple Citrus Ball Cactus Seeds,
A LOT of money (10,000 at the least)
And an adventurous mind.

One thing that I love to do in every game, is discover each tier 4 flower and foliage. A quick definition of Tier 4:
A category of flowers and foliages that canNOT be bred from any other tier and must be bought or mutated into.

Each flower can be paired with a foliage. The tier 4s are paired by so IN THIS ORDER:
Arthurium Glaber
Venus Tigerfern
Tahitian Pitcher
Lilia Weeper
Baccatus Multiflora
Tilia Ridgeball.

There is an entire list of the pairs for each tier, but these are only the tier 4s. Here is the fragment of the list you will need to know:
Mela Pear Cactus - Not Tier 4
Citrus Ball Cactus - Not Tier 4
Arthurium Glaber
Venus Tigerfern
Tahitian Pitcher
Lilia Weeper
Baccatus Multiflora
Tilia Ridgeball.
We will start with a citrus ball cactus. mutation works this way:
Mutating a plant will change either the flower or foliage and will move it up or down one space on the list. Example:
Mutating a Venus Tigerfern will give you:
Venus Pitcher
Venus Glaber
Arthurium Tigerfern
or Tahitian Tigerfern.

Get it?
Good. So with a Citrus Ball cactus, we will get:
Citrus Glaber
Citrus Pear Cactus
Mela Ball Cactus,
Or Arthurium Ball Cactus.
We want Citrus Glaber or Arthurium Ball Cactus, because that moves us one step closer to Arthurium Glaber, which is the first step. If we wind up with Citrus Pear Cactus or Mela Ball Cactus, tough luck, sell it, and try again. Once you have either a Citrus Glaber or an Arthurium Ball Cactus, self-pollinate it. remember, if a plant has already been pollinated, it can never be pollinated again, even if you mutate it. Harvest the seeds, and plant one. This is the point where I get impatient and buy insta-grow. Once it's grown, mutate it. Remember the rules of mutation? This time, you want only one thing. Arthurium Glaber. If you wind up with Citrus Tigerfern or Venus Ball cactus, it doesn't matter, sell them and try again. Once you have an Arthurium Glaber, pollinate it, and plant one. Now repeat the same steps as you did with the citrus ball cactus excpt this time, you want a venus Glaber or an Arthurium Tigerfern to mutate into a Venus tigerfern. Repeat that pattern until you get a Tillia ridgeball. Save all of your seeds. This is basically the pattern:

Plant,
Mutate,
Pollinate (if you get what you want) (sell and try again if you don't)
Repeat.
You should now have the seeds for the following plants:
Arthurium Glaber
Venus Tigerfern
Tahitian Pitcher
Lilia Weeper
Baccatus Multiflora
Tilia Ridgeball.

Plant them and show off. Have a tier 4 frenzy.
